Welcome to this
sixteenth issure of Practical Update, a journal devoted to the presentation of practical and useful information for general education
teachers and special education teachers working with mildly handicapped
students in the general education classroom and in the resource room. I hope
you find in this issue something of use to you and your students.
In this issue, Dr. John Wasson discusses how you can look at the inbalances in your studentsÕ skills in word recognition (Necessary Balances in Teaching Word Recognition Techniques). He will follow this up with another article in a future issue with helpful techniques teachers can use to remediate these deficiencies.
Mr. John Helland, in his Thinking About Reading column, discusses the important topic of getting the main idea in reading (Getting The Main Idea: One of ReadingÕs Great Challenges).
I am continuing my series on web based instruction by looking at the many new tools teachers have at their disposal as they present a course of instruction on the internet (Web Based Instruction: Implementing Teaching Learning Technology).
We conclude this issue of Practical Update, our longest issue so far, with another article on reading (Understanding Inferences Is one of ReadingÕs Biggest Challenges) by John Helland.
